My postdoc in FABI is part of a Human Frontier project investigating the remarkable longevity of fungus-growing termite queens. With the same genes, the queens can live several decades, while sterile individuals have a lifespan of only several months. This all the more impressive as the queens is extremely fertile, laying several thousands of eggs during her entire life.
