I have PhD in Animal Science (Genomics) from the University of Pretoria, and worked with Professor Este van Marle-Koster (University of Pretoria), Professor Azwihangwisi Maiwashe (Agricultural Research Council) and Professor Jerry Taylor (University of Missouri, USA). My MSc and PhD were obtained from the Professional Development Program of the ARC, funded by the NRF/DSI. My PhD work focused on the discovery of novel SNPs in South African indigenous beef cattle using whole genome sequencing. The study identified novel SNPs, selection signatures and genes important for cattle breeding. After completing my PhD, I worked as a Researcher at the ARC- AP, Animal Breeding and Genetics, on different funded research projects on livestock genomics and bioinformatics. I also supervise honours, masters and PhD students. I also worked at 54gene, assisting in genotyping and sequencing of clinical samples to identify markers for diagnostics, drug discovery and contributing towards precision medicine in Africa. I am  currently working with the EPPI team to assist in developing linkage maps for Eucalyptus, with Prof Sanushka Naidoo. My research interest is genomics applicable to both animals and plants, as well as medical genomics, while striving to improve my quantitative/bioinformatics skills.
