FABI’s Prof. Mike Wingfield joined colleagues Dr Sandy Liebhold, Dr Anna Novoa Perez, Dr Petr Pyšek, Prof. David Richardson and Prof. Treena Burgess for a three-day long workshop focused on invasion risks associated with planting trees outside their native ranges. The workshop formed part of the Forest Invasion Synthesis (FISC), a European Union funded project based at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague and led by Dr Liebhold. Other than working on a synthesis project, the group attended an excellent lecture by Dr Anna Novoa “The importance of human dimensions in the study and management of biological invasions”. The group also enjoyed lunch-break walks in the natural forests surrounding the University campus at time when the fall colours and various wood-associated fungi were exceptionally beautiful.
