Manager: DNA Sequencing Facility
I am responsible for the DNA Sanger Sequencing Facility which provides a service to UP researchers. This facility houses two ABI3500xl genetic analyzer instruments and also provides access to a Qubit fluorometer for quality control of samples (DNA, RNA, Protein). We process DNA Sanger sequencing samples and fragment analysis samples such as STR’s, tRFLP’s and SNP’s and offer technical and troubleshooting support for DNA Sanger sequencing and Fragment analysis data. The facility also hosts an annual Introductory Microsatellite workshop and presents DNA Sanger sequencing workshops to assist our clients with all aspects of this technology in their laboratories.
Together with Dr Nicky Olivier I also co-manage the University of Pretoria Genomics Laboratory (UPGL). The UPGL is a DIPLOMICS partner laboratory and offers a long read next generation nucleotide sequencing service and associated training opportunities through workshops hosted by the UPGL, presented in collaboration with the ACGT and DIPLOMICS.
