Christian Pirk elected a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences 2020-08-21
FABI congratulates Prof. Christian Pirk on being elected a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS). Christian leads the social insects research group in the Department of Zoology and Entomology at the University of Pretoria. This group studies fundamental and applied aspects of sociality in ants, bees, termites and wasps, with a particular focus on honeybees.
AAS is a non-aligned, non-political, not-for-profit pan African organisation whose vision is to see transformed lives on the African continent through science. The AAS Fellowship comprises individuals who have reached the highest level of excellence in their field of expertise and have made contributions to the advancement of the field on the African continent. Fellows are elected based on their achievements that include their publication record, innovations, leadership roles and contribution to society and their election is through a rigorous review process.
