Disease screening of maize genotypes in the Eastern Cape 2021-02-11
Drs David Nsibo and Mahlane Godfrey Kgatle of the Grain Research Program (GRP) travelled to the Rocky Park Farm in Ugie, Eastern Cape, from 25-27 January 2021. The purpose of the trip was to screen and score for diseases on various maize genotypes planted as part of a cultivar trial and to collect weather data from the GRP weather station that was installed at Rocky Park Farm. A repeat maize cultivar trial is being conducted at the University of Pretoria Experimental Farm. The team will continue to visit Rocky Park and many other farms in the Eastern Cape to monitor fields as part of various projects in the group.
The team would like to thank Sinelizwi Fakade and Lesego Selokela for assisting the team with the planting and maintenance of the MCT at Rocky Park Farm and the University of Pretoria, respectively.
