Long-time FABI research collaborator and extraordinary staff member of the Institute, Prof. Francois Roets from Stellenbosch University visited FABI on 11 February to meet various colleagues and to discuss numerous collaborative projects. MSc student Handré Basson joined Francois for this visit so as to discuss a planned research project with Proff. Mike Wingfield and Brenda Wingfield. This new project will focus on the fungal associates of a number of conifer-infesting bark beetles and follows on from a preliminary field survey of beetles infesting the Cedarberg cedar (Widdringtonia cedarbergensis), which was conducted during the latter part of 2020.
