Luki-Marie Scheepers, a PhD candidate in FABI, was one of nine students from the University of Pretoria’s Chemistry Department and one from the Department of Actuarial Science who participated in the annual SAAWK (Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kunste) symposium on 3-4 November. The SAAWK aims to provide a forum for postgraduate students from multiple disciplines to present their research results in Afrikaans. 

The University of Pretoria was well represented and brought home a second place for an oral presentation (Mr Hendrik van der Poll), a third place poster presentation (Ms Bernice Currie). Luki-Marie won an Afrikaans spellchecker to celebrate the good use of her mother tongue in Afrikaans science communication.
