Two members of the Crop Floral Biology and Environments (CFBE) research team in FABI, PhD candidate Phrasia Mapfumo and MSc student Johan Cilliers, showcased their group’s work at Grain SA’s NAMPO Harvest Day 2023 at NAMPO Park in Bothaville, Free State from 16-19 May. The annual NAMPO show is one of the largest agricultural exhibitions under private ownership in the southern hemisphere. It is an event where producers, researchers and industry can engage with key players in the agricultural industry. FABI, in collaboration with the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) and the University of the Free State, and funded under Grain SA’s Climate Resilience Consortium had several trials at NAMPO, which enabled hands-on interactions with farmers from all over South Africa and other African countries. The FABI-ARC stand was well received, and some farmers and students visited more than once, bringing friends and colleagues along. A group of farmers, on their third visit, said that our stand was the only place where they were given more information regarding their concerns.
