Forest entomologist from Czech Republic visits FABI 2014-11-11
Dr Jirí Foit from Mendel University in Brno, Chech Republic recently completed a two-month visit to FABI. Dr Foit's research focuses on the ecology and identification of bark and wood boring beetles in Europe. His expertise allowed him to contribute substantively to three FABI projects, including: 1) morphometrics of the deodar weevil in South Africa; 2) identification of beetles attracted as bi-catch to Sirex kairomone lures; and 3) Central American bark beetle-ophiostomatoid fungi interactions. His trip culminated with a short hike in the Magaliesburg mountains with his local host, Dr Jeff Garnas, seen on the right with Dr Foit in the photograph.
