FABI had the pleasure of welcoming and hosting its first visitors from the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Germany over the past three months. The German team included Mrs. Marjorie Cedone, Ms. Sarah Fushimi, Ms. Leonie Berger, and Prof. Sherif Elsayed, who are focused on screening Fusarium secondary metabolites and nematode-killing fungi.

Their visit was supported by the Mycobiomics project, funded by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Research and Innovation Staff Exchanges (MSCA-RISE) grant. The Mycobiomics project aims to unite research teams from Asia, Africa, and Europe to explore fungal microbiomes for potentially beneficial metabolites and biocontrol agents using OMICS techniques. The project includes eight partners from seven countries, with Prof. Cobus Visagie and Dr Neriman Yilmaz leading from the FABI side.

The HZI team also presented their work at the weekly FABI Monday Morning Seminar of 13 May. They engaged with numerous FABIans, fostering ongoing collaboration.
