FABI, in partnership with the South African Cultivar and Technology Agency (SACTA), this year trains and supports six interns as part of its Phytosanitation and Biosecurity Internship programme. Commissioned by SACTA, a film crew from Brand Republic visited FABI on Wednesday 26 June to shoot a video of the internship programme at the Institute. Two colleagues from SACTA, Mr Sandile Mahlangu and Ms Kgodisho Tema, also visited FABI for the first time.

The day started at 08h30 with a briefing by the film crew, after which filming commenced with interviewing two of the interns, and thereafter Mr Mahlangu and Prof. Martin Coetzee (FABI, programme co-ordinator). The interns were also filmed working in the laboratories and going about their everyday tasks.

As the day unfolded, SACTA colleagues got to know the interns a little better, what skills they were learning and what the programme entails. Internship programme co-ordinators at FABI and SACTA colleagues also made use of this opportunity to get to know each other better and to brainstorm on how to work together more effectively in the future and build further on the partnership.

The day ended on a high note with a light lunch in the FABI courtyard.
