AGRIOS’ Plant Pathology is a very familiar text for several generations of plant pathologists worldwide. The first edition was published in 1969, with updated editions until 2005, when the 5th edition was published. Previous editions have been translated into 11 different languages. It was the brainchild of Professor George N. Agrios, who had an illustrious career as a plant pathologist at the University of Florida. After his passing in 2010, there was a hiatus until the 6th edition was published this year, edited by Prof. Richard Oliver. Major advances have been made in the field of plant pathology in the past 19 years. The new edition will be essential reading for undergraduates in the BSc (Agric) Plant Pathology programme and related degrees at UP.  It should also serve as a useful reference for FABI and NAS postgraduates involved in plant health research, as well as the many government and industry plant pathology practitioners. A new feature of the 6th edition are chapters on diseases of a comprehensive range of plant hosts. Prof. Dave Berger, MPPI contributed the chapter “Diseases of maize/corn”. Prof. Irene Barnes and Prof. Mike Wingfield contributed the chapter entitled “Diseases of plantation trees in the tropics and Southern Hemisphere”. This is the first time Forest Pathology has been featured in AGRIOS, with a second chapter covering Forest Trees in the Northern Hemisphere.
