The University of Pretoria and the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI) will host the 2016 International Fusarium laboratory workshop from 29 May to 3 June. This is an important, internationally recognised event held annually at its home base, Kansas State University, USA, or occasionally at universities elsewhere in the world. It is expected that around 30 plant pathologists from South African, African and international universities, as well as other research institutes will attend this workshop.

Internationally recognised Fusarium researchers will present the workshop and participants will be introduced to standard morphological, genetic and molecular biological techniques used to identify and characterise strains of Fusarium. These are some of the most important pathogens of agricultural crops, resulting in huge financial losses globally, including in South Africa.
