FABI students break a tree planting record! 2014-03-28
Today 43 students of the TPCP/CTHB research groups in FABI have broken two records. Firstly, this was the largest group of students ever to participate in a tree planting session in FABI, and then they beat the previous record for the most trees planted in 6 hours! Between 8 am and 2 pm these students replanted more than 3700 eucalyptus cuttings together with Acacia and Syzygium seedlings, into potting bags. The trees will be used in research projects on tree diseases and pests over the next two years.
The group not only included South African students, but students from countries as far as Canada, Colombia, Chile, Spain, Czech Republic, Germany, Kenya, Cameroon, Ethiopia, India, Thailand, China and Korea. The day was thus not only about hard work and getting an important job done, but also about team spirit and cross-cultural education. We thank all the students for their positive attitude and for making hard work fun!
