From 28 May to 1 June, members of the Avocado Research Programme (ARP) at FABI attended the Avocado Brainstorming conference for 2018. The conference was held in Tzaneen, to ‘talk all things avo’. Eighty-six delegates from across the globe met for these discussions on topics such as plant improvement, genomics, genetic resources, productivity, crop management, pests and  diseases, propagation, fruit quality, profitability, economic analysis, and post-harvest as well as food safety. The ARP tem included Prof. Noëlani van den Berg, Juanita Engelbrecht, Michael du Toit, Dr Sarah Mwangi, Tsakani Miyambo and Jesse Hartley. The days were filled with presentations, poster sessions, guided tours of Westfalia fruit estate, group discussions, and engaging conversations between people of coming from many different fields. The conference was both educational and highly successful in deciding on important issues and planning for the avocado industry’s future.
