Prof Brenda Wingfield awarded Fellowship of the American Phytopathological Society 2018-08-06
At an impressive awards ceremony, Prof. Brenda Wingfield had the special honour of being awarded Fellowship of the American Phytopathological Society (APS). The ceremony was held as part of the International Congress of Plant Pathology (ICPP) held in Boston (USA) during the week of 29 July. The American Phytopathological Society is the world’s most influential body focused on the field of plant disease and food security. The award was presented to Brenda by APS President Dr Mary Palm and past President Dr Rick Bennett. Fellowship is the highest honour that the Society can bestow upon its members. No more than ten Fellowships are awarded (on average) annually with Fellows making up about one percent of the Society’s membership. Brenda joins Prof. Mike Wingfield as the only two current South Africans (to the best of their knowledge also Africans) having APS Fellowship. It has also been suggested that they are probably the only dual professional couple that share this honour but this needs to be verified!
