With the growing interest in sustainable agriculture and soil health conservation within the agricultural sector, my MSc project will focus on investigating the biodiversity of the soil microbiome and its impact on potato health. The project consists of two main components. The first component aims to explore the effects of rising temperatures and atmospheric CO2 levels on the soil microbiome and potato health. The second component will investigate the influence of different agricultural practices on the soil microbiome and potato health. I had completed my honours in Plant Pathology, looking specifically at the effect of crop rotation on suppressing important soil-borne pathogens of potatoes in South Africa. I will continue under the guidance of Prof. Jacquie van der Waals in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.
