I completed my undergraduate degree in BSc Microbiology at the University of Pretoria in 2024 and currently pursuing my Honours in Microbiology. I am part of the Macadamia Protection Programme, working under the guidance of the lovely Prof. Gerda Fourie.

My research focuses on Husk Rot Disease in macadamia, specifically its causal agents, which include Calonectria, Diaporthe, and Colletotrichum. I aim to investigate in vitro fungicide efficacy against these fungal spores by determining their efficacy concentrations (EC50)—the fungicide concentration required to achieve 50% of the maximum inhibitory effect. Additionally, I am exploring the potential of a biological control agent that secretes volatile compounds capable of inhibiting fungal growth at a distance.

I am excited for the year ahead and the growth that comes with pursuing an honours degree!
