FABI congratulates Prof. Mike Wingfield, Founding Director of the Institute for being included on the 2020 Clarivate Web of Science Highly Cited Researchers list - the fourth consecutive year he has achieved this status. This list, revised and published annually recognises “scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant influence through publication of multiple papers, highly cited by their peers, during the last decade”.Their highly cited publicationsrank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science. This year’s list includes nine academics that occupy permanent positions at South African Universities.  The two at the University of Pretoria include Mike Wingfield and Prof. XiaoHua Xia from the Department of Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering. The remaining nine include Prof. Bob Scholes (University of the Witwatersrand), Prof. Dave Richardson (Stellenbosch University), Prof. Salim Abdool Karim (CAPRISA), Prof. Kaviyarasu Kasinathan (UNISA), and Prof. William Bond, Prof. Estelle Lambert and Prof. Dan Stein (University of Cape Town).  FABI congratulations also extend to Prof. Pedro Crous (Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute, the Netherlands) and Prof. Yves van der Peer (Ghent University, Belgium) who hold adjunct positions at UP and are also included in this year’s list.
