Three FABIans shortlisted for South Africa’s “Science Oscars” 2024-06-14
The NSTF-South32 Awards, are referred to as the ‘Science Oscars’ of South Africa, recognising outstanding contributions to science, engineering and technology (SET) and innovation by individuals, teams and organisations in South Africa. They are the largest, most comprehensive, and sought-after national awards. This year sees 217 nominees being shortlisted in 15 categories including three FABIans. FABI Director, Prof. Bernard Slippers is shortlisted for the Management Award, Prof. Irene Barnes for the TW Kambule-NSTF Award: Researcher category and Prof. Cobus Visagie for the TW Kambule-NSTF Award: Emerging Researcher category. FABI is very proud of these members and we look forward to the winners being announced on 11 July.
Past FABI NSTF award winners have included FABIans, Prof. Jolanda Roux (2012), Prof. Brenda Wingfield (2014), Prof. Zander Myburg (2015), Prof. Dave Berger (2016), and Prof. Mike Wingfield who was awarded the Annual Theme Award: Plant Health in 2020. FABI also wishes two other NSTF Lifetime Awards Award nominees well: Prof. André Ganswindt, and Prof. Ben-Erik van Wyk.
