Two FABIans attend the International Plant Protection Congress (IPPC) in Germany 2015-09-10
Prof. Lucy Moleleki and PhD student Stanford Kwenda, of the Bacterial Genomics and Host Pathogen Interactions research group in FABI, attended the 18th International Plant Protection Congress (IPPC), where Stanford presented a poster titled ‘Transcriptome profiling of potato cultivars under Pectobacterium carotovorum subspecies brasiliense challenge’.
The conference was held in Berlin, Germany from the 24th – 27th of August. The IPPC was attended by 1,200 participants from more than 95 different countries. The theme of the IPPC 2015 was ‘Mission possible: food for all through appropriate plant protection’ and was explored under 4 broad topics:
- Challenges (Food crisis in a stressed world – reasons and challenges)
- Tradition and Innovation (Planting future – plants resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses)
- Integration and precision (Raising and sustaining productivity of plant production systems
- Social aspects and co-operations (Social participation – Key factor for food security)
