Dr Lucas Shuttleworth recently entered a photo in the Commonwealth Woods Photographic Competition. His entry was selected to be exhibited at the Lighthouse Gallery in Glasgow, the host city of the XX Commonwealth Games, from 11 April to 24 October. Congratulations Lucas!

The photo depicts local children using makoros near Malabwe, in the Western Province of Zambia, with native forests in the backgound. Lucas took the picture last year while doing field work for his postdoctoral research in Zambia. (Click on the pdf for a larger version).

This once again illustrates how valuable good photographs from field research can be. Several FABIans have made the cover of well-known international journals before, using good photographs taken during field trips (see Roux et al. 2013; Cruywagen et al. 2010; etc). So FABIans, follow Lucas's example: keep your cameras ready at all times and take LOTS of pictures, you might end up with a cover shot for Nature!
