FABI had the pleasure of hosting a visit on 27 May by Mr Sukanto Tanoto, the Chairman of the Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) Group. He was accompanied by Mr. Mark Werren, the Director of operations: Asia Pacific Resources International Holdings Limited (APRIL) (a unit of RGE) and two other representatives of RGE, Mr Isaac Tan and Mr Derek Sim. The group was welcomed to FABI by the Institute’s Director, Prof Bernard Slippers after being taken on a short tour of the University of Pretoria’s Hatfield campus. The visit included a short introduction to FABI and its research activities by Prof. Slippers and Prof. Brenda Wingfield. The group was then taken on a brief tour of some of FABI’s key facilities including the culture collection and the Institute’s Biocontrol Centre on the University of Pretoria’s Research Farm. A visit to the new Future Africa Campus was also conducted by Prof Slippers to show the progress being madewith this new facility that will be opening in the second half of 2018. This visit follows the establishment of a new research group within FABI, the RGE-FABI Tree Health Programme after the recent signing of a MoU between RGE and FABI in April 2018.
