For her precision and dexterity, FABI PhD student Benedicta Swalarsk-Parry was crowned “Pipetting Ninja” at a mini pipetting competition hosted by Inqaba Biotec at FABI on 5 June. Benedicta successfully aliquoted 1998 µl of water, the closest to the 2000µl required to win the competition. She beat 40 postgraduate students and postdoctoral Fellows to the prize, an Eppendorf Research Plus Pipette worth R4000, sponsored by the Pretoria-based genomics company.

FABI Deputy Director Professor Fanus Venter opened the event and thanked Inqaba Biotec for its support through the years. The company sponsored the June 2019 edition of FABI’s monthly teas, providing the refreshments served during the function. With subsidiaries in East and West Africa, Inqaba Biotec is a reputable genomics company providing in-house services such as Sanger DNA sequencing and primer synthesis as well as nucleic acid extraction kits, lab chemicals and reagents.
