I am currently pursuing my honours degree in Microbiology under the supervision of Dr. Velushka Swart and Prof. Noëlani van den Berg. My project aims to investigate the avocado rhizosphere microbiome to determine possible biological control agents against the ascomycete Dematophora necatrix which causes the disease known as white root rot. My project will also aim to asses the effect that the fungicide Fluazinam (which can be used as a treatment for white root rot) has on the microbial community of treated avocado rhizospheres.
